Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Martex Coating and Epoxy?

Martex is a flexible latex granite finish made from quartz and industrial grade polymer base.

Epoxy is a 2-component chemical base liquid plastic. Vinyl paint flakes can be added for texture and beauty.

Both are very durable. Martex is primarily used outside while epoxy can be used outside or inside.

How long does Martex coating last?

The life expectancy of Martex depends on several factors, such as high use areas vs low use areas.  A set of stairs at the main entrance to your home for example, will likely have a shorter lifespan than that of a foundation wall or pool walkway. For longer lasting results, we recommend using a de-icer and not salt as well as a plastic shovel.

Our products are expected up to a decade and easily exceed any other concrete coverings.

How long does it take to apply?

Martex usually takes about 4-5 days, including concrete repairs and fibreglass mesh installation for added reinforcement.

Epoxy usually takes about 2-3 days, including all cement repairs and topcoat sealer (anti-slip coating if requested).

Is the finish slippery?

Martex: Not at all. The composition of the product ensures that even though it is smooth and easy to maintain, it provides an excellent grip under your feet.

Epoxy: requires a special topcoat with special additives to reduce slipperiness.

Is Martex resistant to the weather elements?

Absolutely. It is resistant to UV rays, impact, changes in temperature and thermal expansion.

Where can Martex coating be applied?

Martex coating is perfectly suited to all types of concrete surfaces. Designed for residential, commercial, and industrial. It’s typically for outdoor use on stairs, foundation walls, balconies, pool sidewalks, walkways, and storage areas.

How long can an Epoxy flooring system last?

Properly installed epoxy flooring can last for decades. In order for it to last as long as possible, it needs to be properly maintained.

Where can Epoxy flooring be applied?

Epoxy flooring has been known to be one of the most versatile flooring solutions available. It is typically used for indoor projects such as auto shops/ home garages, restaurants, commercial facilities, and even in the medical industry.

What are the different types of epoxy flooring?

We offer 3 different epoxy flooring systems. The most popular type of epoxy flooring is Flaked Epoxy. This is typically used in garages and storage areas.

For something a little more unique or exotic, we suggest metallic epoxy flooring or solid colour epoxy with a smooth glossy look.

Are epoxy floors slippery?

Epoxy flooring is a seamless surface that shines with a high gloss.  The epoxy flooring provides natural grip when shoes are worn on its surface. Just like any other flooring, epoxy can be slippery when exposed to moisture or when it has become soiled. An anti slip topcoat can be added.

What is the maintenance like for an epoxy floor?

Epoxy flooring is easy to maintain, as it doesn’t require any type of wax or polish to keep it looking incredible.  To get the longest life out of your floor, it is important to keep it clean. All that requires is a soft bristle broom or a dust mop (ie: a Swiffer) to remove all foreign objects off the floor and a standard wet mop to wipe it down. If the epoxy flooring is in the garage or outside, you can use a pressure washer or a hose to clean the floors.
